June 2026

This project involved the refurbishment and reconfiguration of existing accommodation to create a new de-stimulation room with ensuite facilities and an occupational therapy kitchen, alongside the refurbishment of the existing activity room.

The works included specialist resin wall and floor finishes to the de-stimulation room and ensuite, as well as the creation of a secure external therapeutic space featuring a new Britplas fencing system and resin flooring. The activity room corridor was widened and the activity room refurbished, with legacy fire compartmentation also upgraded to achieve the required 60-minute fire resistance.

Working within a live healthcare environment, careful planning and close collaboration with the client and ward teams were essential to delivering the project safely while minimising disruption. The work area was located below ground level, with access restricted by stepped entrances and no ability to use the live ward for material deliveries. With limited space for storage and laydown, Red Tree carefully coordinated labour, materials and deliveries throughout the programme. We worked closely with ward managers, nursing staff, clinicians, estates teams and client representatives to understand operational requirements and develop construction sequences around clinical priorities, ensuring patient care remained the primary focus.

Noise, vibration and dust were closely monitored and controlled, with higher-impact works scheduled during agreed periods to minimise disturbance to patients, staff and visitors. Through proactive stakeholder engagement, detailed planning and a flexible approach to delivery, Red Tree successfully completed the refurbishment while maintaining a safe, secure and fully operational healthcare environment.
