Red Tree Building Contractors transformed a former COVID-19 ward at Burnley General Teaching Hospital into a specialist clinical simulation suite for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT), creating an innovative learning environment for healthcare professionals and students.
The facility provides a realistic clinical setting where staff can practise procedures, rehearse complex medical scenarios and develop their skills using immersive simulation technology, all within a safe, controlled environment. This supports practical learning, teamwork and improved patient safety without putting patients at risk.
The works involved a complete strip-out and refurbishment of the former ward, including new mechanical and electrical services, medical gas installations, replacement windows and doors, air conditioning and a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system.
The completed facility gives the former ward a new purpose, providing a valuable resource for clinical education and the development of future healthcare professionals.
