Red Tree buzzing to support ‘The Bees’ Therapeutic Football Project

Red Tree branded ‘Bees’ football kit

We are proud to announce our partnership with First Step Trust and Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust to support ‘The Bees’ Therapeutic Football Project which uses football as a powerful non-clinical intervention for people experiencing mental health challenges.

Based at the Riverside Centre within Prestwich Hospital, the pilot project is already delivering encouraging results, with strong attendance levels and growing engagement from both current and former service users. The football pitch has become a vital “third space” for recovery, helping individuals build confidence, reduce social isolation, and develop a sense of belonging beyond traditional clinical settings.

Red Tree’s sponsorship will help fund essential training equipment, professional kits, access to pitches, and FA-accredited coaching support. The project also provides opportunities for participants to gain coaching, first aid, CPR, and mentoring qualifications - creating pathways towards independence, wellbeing, and long-term personal development.

Andy from First Step Trust said:

"We are incredibly grateful to Red Tree for their generous donation, which has been the catalyst for taking The Bees programme beyond the Riverside Unit. This support allows us to bring our football-based mission directly into the local community, providing vital opportunities for residents to improve both their physical health and mental mindfulness in a supportive environment."

The Bees’ is more than just football, it’s a structured pathway towards independence, health and growth.
